Fannie New Business, Delinquency Continue Sliding

Secondary activity fell to the lowest level in more than three years at the Federal National Mortgage Association. Also moving lower were its book of business and delinquency rate.

During the final month of last year, Fannie Mae had 6 percent less in new business acquisitions than in November.

It was the slowest month for the Washington, D.C.-based company since July 2011, according to monthly operational data released Friday.

U.S. More Than Doubles Amount Sought in BofA Suit

The federal government is asking a judge to more than double the amount it originally sought against Bank of America Corp. now that a jury has ruled against the Charlotte, N.C.-based company.

The case centers around a program known as the “high-speed swim lane,” or “Hustle,” at Countrywide Financial Corp. — which BofA acquired in 2008.

According to the government, thousands of fraudulent loans originated through the “Hustle” program that were sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac later defaulted.
